Journal of Science Policy & Governance Partners with NSPG

WASHINGTON, DC ­- The Journal of Science Policy & Governance (JSPG) is proud to announce a partnership with the National Science Policy Group (NSPG), a national network of student­-run science policy organizations.

NSPG, which began as a network of student groups from Massachusetts to California, serves as a platform to connect science policy groups composed of graduate students, postdocs and young researchers who are passionate about science and engineering policy. Through the group, students and young scholars can share ideas, professional development tools and best practices with each other. The organization also assists those who are interested in forming a science policy student organization at their university.

The Journal of Science Policy & Governance will serve as a forum for NSPG members to publish peer-­reviewed policy memos, policy analyses, technology assessments and op­eds on variety of science policy topics ranging from climate change and space policy to technology transfer and STEM education.

NSPG Partners with the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

ROCKVILLE, MD. – The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is proud to announce a partnership with the National Science Policy Group, a national network of student-run science policy groups. The ASBMB offers several opportunities for students to engage in advocacy throughout the year, and these events will now be open to NSPG members. The ASBMB and the NSPG will work together to help students understand science policy and how the federal government affects their careers.

“This is an important step in our growing our grassroots advocacy efforts,” said Benjamin Corb, director of public affairs for the ASBMB. “Students are an integral part of our national scientific enterprise, but their voices are often not as loud as some other scientific constituencies. The NSPG has an impressive organization, and we look forward to partnering with them to amplify the voices of young science advocates.”

Samuel Brinton, executive director of the NSPG, said, “We are excited to have the ASBMB as one of our first partner organizations. We are dedicated to having a strong student voice in policy discussions, and our partnership with the ASBMB will give our members who are interested in advocacy opportunities to have an impact as well an avenue to make their voice heard in the science policy conversations occurring on campuses across the country.”

Beginning in 2015, NSPG members will be invited to take part in all of ASBMB’s advocacy activities. This includes the yearly Capitol Hill Day, the ASBMB’s congressional visits program, several letter-writing campaigns and a variety of new activities currently under development. The NSPG will also draw on the ASBMB’s expertise in advocacy in order to pursue its goals.
